Ronald McDonald House Charities of Augusta relies on our volunteers to help provide a home-away-from-home for over 1,000 families each year. Our treasured volunteer John Bailey shared his story (edited for publishing).
From John Bailey (JB):
I am John Bailey, better known as J.B. I have volunteered at R.M.H. since November 2017. I retired from the service insurance business on 2017 after 45 years of service. I have always loved working with people! I am an active member of Liberty United Methodist Church in Hephzibah.
After the birth of my second grandchild (Lauren) in July 2013, I became more familiar with Augusta University and the children medical center. Augusta is so blessed to have our medical center right here! They treat so many children that cannot be treated elsewhere due to extreme medical conditions. Many families have to travel here for treatments that take days and hundreds of miles. They come here not knowing anyone. This is where RMH comes into play. We provide housing and food and support to these families. We provide a temporary home.
I serve as a way to give back for what A.U. has done for my granddaughter and it warms my heart!
P.s. Only pet peeve- making sure the choo choo train goes around the Christmas tree for the kids.
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Augusta serves over 1,000 families each year. Our volunteer run community kitchen serves over 15,000 meals, and our volunteers and families run over over 5,000 loads of laundry every year.
We hope that this story has inspired you to get involved and help families just like this one. The staff, our volunteers and the Board of Directors thank the Heath family for sharing their story and we hope everyone will get involved.
