Ronald McDonald House Charities of Augusta provides a home-away-from-home for over 1,000 families each year and we love when our families share their stories. The Doolittle Family shared this story (edited for publishing).
Rebecca and Jacob Doolittle knew hardly anything about Ronald McDonald House of Augusta until January 2019 when their firstborn son, Elijah, was placed in the NICU immediately after birth following unexpected and uncertain complications.
Considering their one hour drive from home to the Children’s Hospital, Jacob’s work schedule, and the uncertainty of Elijah’s condition, they wondered how they could manage their need, and desire, to be at the hospital almost 24/7 with their newborn son.
The Ronald McDonald House of Augusta was the answer and a blessing in the truest sense of the word.
“RMHC has been our home as our son’s hospitalization has stretched from weeks to months. We can’t express what a wonderful blessing it is to be able to walk over to the hospital from the Ronald McDonald House and visit our son – any time of day or night.”
“If we can’t be home, this is the best place we could be. The staff is amazing; the house and rooms are spacious and clean, meals are wonderful, and they think of everything you could need being away from home.”
“We are in awe of the Ronald McDonald House and the special service they provide to the families here. We will definitely be searching for ways to give back to this incredible place that has created a home away from home for us in the middle of such a strenuous time in our lives.”
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Augusta serves over 1,000 families each year. Our volunteer run community kitchen serves over 15,000 meals, and our volunteers and families run over over 5,000 loads of laundry every year.
We hope that this story has inspired you to get involved and help families just like this one. The staff, our volunteers and the Board of Directors thank the Doolittle family for sharing their story and we hope everyone will get involved.
