Ronald McDonald House Charities of Augusta provides a home-away-from-home for over 1,000 families each year and we love when our families share their stories. The Williams Family shared this story (edited for publishing).
At the Ronald McDonald House in Augusta, Facilities Director Nikia Bennett knows two things for certain about Bryonna Williams – she is a very sweet, kind teen and “she loves teddy bears.” Nikia says “she always has a life-sized teddy bear with her when she goes for treatment”. We all know the Williams family as a kind, caring family and Bryonna’s father sent the following letter to share with RMHC supporters:
From The Williams family:
To Whom it may concern,
My name is Melvin Williams III, I am the father of Bryonna, a regular patient at the Augusta Regional Hospital’s Ped. Rheumatology Dept.
That is where Bryonna receives ongoing infusion therapy for her progressive JIA. As you might imagine it would be for any 16 year old girl, these monthly trips coupled with the actual pain and discomfort of the disease itself and the other many doctor visits and medication regimen, we are stretched to the limit, as parents, to try to make the necessary three hour trips from Duluth, Ga as painless and rewarding as possible for Bryonna.
The caring doctors and nurses make the trip worth the effort for us as parents, but we must say, that for Bryonna, the stay at Ronald McDonald House Charities is what she loves the most about the trip.
Before we were referred to RMHC, I never really understood how much of an impact the Ronald McDonald House had on the families that benefited from the support they have received. When I saw the red box at the drive thru windows at the restuarants, I guess I actually didn’t stop to think of the impact that a small donation would really have or where the money was going. But now that we have been blessed with actually benefiting ourselves, we donate at the boxes whenever we can.
The staff and volunteers are always so friendly never seem to be burdened or seem as if they are actually at a job, you can tell they want to be here. The meals are great, and my daughter loves the activities and the games.
I can go on all day, but in conclusion, I want to thank RMHC for all that you do for the families. We already have so much to worry about with our children getting treated at the Hospital, to have the rest of the worries of rooming, dinner, and even a refreshing place to sit down and unwind in a quiet zone, means so much, these are the things in the background help us stay positive for our children. Not to say, the children love the activities and the books in the common areas upstairs! Thanks again for your kindness and for your generosity!
