Ronald McDonald House Charities of Augusta provides a home-away-from-home for over 1,000 families each year and we love when our families share their stories. The Reid Family shared this story (edited for publishing).
To the supporters of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Augusta:
My name is Jennifer Reid. My husband, Eric, and I have 2 precious daughters. Sadie, who is now 2 and Lindi who is presently 4 months. We live in Eatonton, GA, which is 95 miles from Augusta.
My family is “whole” now thanks to the team at Children’s Hospital of Georgia and the wonderful people at Ronald McDonald House.
When I went into preterm labor at just 19 weeks gestation, I never dreamed of what was to come. The scariest and loneliest days of my life were ahead of me.
Our daughter, Lindi, was born on 1/11/19 at 11:11 at St Mary’s Hospital in Athens, GA. At just 2 weeks of age, she was “life-flighted” to the Children’s Hospital of Georgia in Augusta for a higher level of care. Living in Eatonton, that meant an 1 1/2 hour or more commute to visit my new baby.
I couldn’t leave my child, not for a second, and I was terrified being in a new place and leaving behind the care team we loved and knew so well in Athens! Within hours of arriving, we were put in touch with the amazing people at the Ronald McDonald House.
I remember crying tears of relief knowing I now had somewhere to lay my head and take a hot shower when I was able, and yet be only a few seconds away from our sweet baby girl!
It also allowed for Eric & Sadie to be able to come visit and play and be together as a family! The staff truly cared for me and our family, meeting any needs we had. From waking up in the morning to a hot cup of coffee, to being greeted by Tina or Nakia’s smiling face during the day, to having Andy at the front desk be sure I got in ok at night and being a friendly ear to vent to!
The Ronald McDonald House and their amazing staff made this journey bearable! I could never repay the gratitude felt for them and the NICU team at CHOG.
I hope others realize the importance of this place to so many in need! I’m forever indebted to them, and they will always be like family to us!
Please, if you feel led to give, give to this organization that offers so much to so many in their most difficult times!
