Ronald McDonald House Charities of Augusta provides a home-away-from-home for over 1,000 families each year and we love when our families share their stories. The Smokes Family shared this story (edited for publishing).
Our relationship with the Ronald McDonald House of Augusta, Ga began on June 24, 2017. I remember the date precisely because this is the day I was discharged from the hospital after the birth of our son, Avery.
This strong little boy was born with several congenital heart defects. So far, he has had 2 heart catheterizations, and 2 surgeries, with more in the upcoming future.
I was discharged from the hospital and headed straight to the Ronald McDonald House, where they had a room waiting for us. Little did we know; this place would become a blessing to our family.
The Ronald McDonald House of Augusta has provided a place for us to stay that is walking distance from the hospital. It allowed us to feel at home while also attending to our son’s needs.
The Ronald McDonald House also provided many meals, not only for us, but other families that have loved ones in the hospital as well. Hospital stays can be expensive so having a place to stay that provides food was a blessing.
We are grateful not only for the wonderful Ronald McDonald Staff but also the many organizations that donate to this charity. These donations make it possible for families to be worry free during their stay. We are forever thankful for every single time we had to stay at the Ronald Mc Donald House.
They will always have a special place in our heart.
